2023 has been a busy year so far for the Tobacco Free Portfolios team! We welcome the action of governments around the globe who are trying to reduce the impact of tobacco, not just on people but also the planet. The Dutch government is leading a push for the EU to consider banning cigarette filters due to pollution concerns. In France, Health Minister François Braun has expressed a desire to ban single use e-cigarettes. New Zealand has passed a law to ban smoking for future generations and in Australia, Health Minister Mark Butler has announced a commitment to clamp down on vaping, receiving widespread applause from the global public health community. We anticipate that finance and business analysts will be adjusting their forecasts for big tobacco considering these global shifts.
